BP Painting LLC is not your average painting contractor. As a woman who has worked in the trades for 20 years, Bevin Palmer prides herself on producing quality painting work across the NH Seacoast. “I have a wide range of customers and they always say the same thing, my work is top notch. You’re always going to get the same value every time” says Bevin. BP Painting LLC paints high end residential interiors as well as stains and varnishes and also does wallpaper hanging and removal.
Bevin graduated from UNH and started painting in college. “Any other job I had never felt right, I love the trades.” She says she knew immediately she wanted to be in business for herself but failed many times. In the beginning, she says she struggled with self-confidence and didn’t think she could do it. “I was trying to do everything on my own. SCORE helped me network and reach out to others for help. They took the time to help me with the baby steps I needed to start my business.”
Meeting with Seacoast SCORE mentors Gary Bedrosian and Chuck Black once a month, Bevin says she’s now headed in the right direction. “I am so impressed by my mentor’s dedication. It is amazing that there are professionals waiting and ready to devote their time.” Bevin considers herself lucky that she is a year in business and not having a problem finding work and filling her schedule. Like other small businesses, she struggles to find dedicated employees and working on filling a part time opening. She is also going to begin working on her website, although she’s been getting so many referrals from word of mouth that she hasn’t had the time. Bevin now has a wide range of customers and is bidding three months out.
“SCORE helped me with everything. I already had my business plan completed, and had a little bit of foundation, but they helped me find a bookkeeper and gave me a punch list to keep me on track”. She believes that people who are in business for themselves can get caught up in the day-to-day and can’t see they could use some help for one reason or another and they should reach out to SCORE. “I would recommend SCORE to anyone starting or running a business,” says Bevin. “It’s not just for struggling businesses it is for any type of business.”
